Kentaro Miura's Berserk is the pinnacle of dark fantasy storytelling, yet its anime adaptations struggle to capture the detail and nuance of Miura's artwork. Despite the multiple Berserk anime adaptations, the imperfect 25-episode series from the late '90s does the best at capturing Miura’s tone.

Anime. Kara No Kyoukai is a great fantasy/thriller series of movies. It's quite dark and mystical with some gorgeous animation. The seven parts can be quite daunting, and it also starts out quite slow and confusing, but it really improves in the middle. Also the 6th movie is totally skippable.
